9-ME-BC (9-Methyl-β-Carboline) Research Reference at Chemyo
This is the Chemyo research reference for 9-Methyl-β-carboline (9-ME-BC): what the compound is, its molecular identity, the formats in stock and the published batch testing. 9-ME-BC is supplied for research use only; nothing on this page is dosing, administration or clinical guidance.
What is 9-ME-BC?
9-ME-BC (9-methyl-β-carboline) belongs to the β-carboline family, a group of indole alkaloids found in plants and formed in some foods. Most β-carbolines are studied for neurotoxic or monoamine-oxidase-inhibiting activity, which is what makes 9-ME-BC unusual: in cell-culture work it appeared protective for dopaminergic neurons.
Studies from the mid-2000s reported that 9-ME-BC stimulated the differentiation and survival of dopaminergic neurons in primary mesencephalic cultures and increased neurotrophic factor expression, and later rodent work examined it in Parkinson’s disease models and spatial-learning tasks. Human data do not exist, so 9-ME-BC is a pre-clinical neuroscience research compound.
